When we lift heavy things, our true and false vocal folds automatically close / adduct. So would you say that the scream requires a certain level of cord compression to work? For it to be healthy and safe, do you need to be engaged at the level of the cords but otherwise free of excess tension (like when belting)?

This is my exact problem and u described it perfectly. I can't do that at all so distortion or high notes I've never been able to do. Makes sense why I can whisper scream or low scream but never at a actual loud level for most all my screams.

I use mine mostly for gaming and watching anime. Being able to pick apart the different sounds happening always enhances the experience
